Slimey Crud Run Meet & Greet

Join us and bring a friend for a meet & greet gathering on Sunday, May 4th. We will meet between 9:00 - 9:30 a.m. at the Slimey Crud Run in Pine Bluff, WI (just west of Madison).  I will try to park by the Cross Plains Town/Pine Bluff Hall & Community Center - Look for the green COG banner.

We'll spend an hour or so kicking tires and gawking at bikes.  Around 11:00 a.m., we will ride over to Grandma Mary's Cafe in Arena, WI for lunch.  After lunch, depending on how everyone feels, we may ride to Leland, WI (~ 30 min. ride), which is the second meeting location of the SCR.

Can't make the SCR? Then consider meeting us for lunch at Grandma Mary's Cafe around 11:30 am.

Never heard of the Slimey Crud Run?  Well, the Slimey Crud Run is a bi-annual event held on the first Sundays in May and October.  The SCR has been going on for almost 50 years and is a gathering of motorcycles and motorcyclists of all brands and types.  The event starts in Pine Bluff, WI and then migrates to Leland, WI for another meet-up in the afternoon.  It's not unusual to see 1,000 or more bikes with participants from at least five states in the upper midwest.  For additional information on the Slimey Crud Run, including the history of the event, check out their website www.slimeycrudrun.com.

For an idea of what to expect, check out this video from 2017.

In addition to some great COG camaraderie, this will be a great time to discuss summer rides, COG events, and possible future meet & greets.

There is no registration fee, but we're asking everyone to register online so we have an idea of how many people to expect. I hope to see you there!

    Horseshoe Mountain Rendezvous

Horseshoe Mountain Rendezvous #10 is a camping event on private property in Central Arkansas.  For the non-campers, it is about a 15 mile drive to Conway, AR, where there are several hotels to choose from. In prior years, non-campers have stayed at the Econo Lodge in Greenbrier. However, it was sold and is currently closed. It may be reopened by May, but your safest bet is in Conway where there are plenty of hotels.

The 2012 and 2022 National Rallies were both held in Arkansas simply because we have such damn good roads.  This centrally located event gives you access to all of Arkansas's best roads.

This is a four-day, all-inclusive event, including three dinners and three breakfasts.  Thursday dinner to be decided.  Friday dinner will be burgers and dogs with all the trimmings.  Saturday dinner will be pulled pork, grilled chicken, beans, and slaw. There will also be nightly desserts.  Breakfast is cooked to order, with a choice of omelets, burritos, and/or biscuits and gravy. Water, soft drinks, coffee, ice, and ice chests are also provided.  A place to camp, shower, Porta-Johns, and a nightly fire included. For the women, there is a real porcelain toilet in the shop.

There is plenty of room/acreage for trucks, trailers & campers if that’s your preference. Also, should the weather be bad, there is a 4,000 sq Ft building to hang out in.

    Registration/Fees

If you have any questions or issues with online registration, please contact COG Event Coordinator Mark Wojcik at "events at concours.org".

Registration for this event will be done online only. This year, registrations will be limited to the first 40. This is a soft cap and may be increased to 50, so if you are not one of the first 40, please add your name to the waitlist (via the registration page). Once registration closes, the location of the event will be emailed to all registrants.

Registration deadline is 11:59 pm (CDT) Friday, May 9th.

Please contact Cliff Burnett at cjburnette@tcworks.net with questions regarding the registration limit.

Beat the Heat SE Summer Social

This year's SE Beat The Heat summer social is being held at the Big Lynn Lodge in Little Switzerland, NC. Room rates include Dinner (6p-7p) & Breakfast (7:30a-9a) for two. The lodge has a pool table, corn hole boards, fire pit with complimentary fire wood and amazing views.

As many of you know, hurricane Helene wreaked havoc on the area. Big Lynn Lodge sustained minimal damage and provided much needed relief during and after the event. They were a distribution hub for supplies and provided free meals for many in the area.

Many of the roads were damaged by Helene but are on track to be repaired according to NCDOT. The BRP may not be open or only short sections, we will not know until closer to the dates. While the roads may not be 100% repaired, we anticipate minimal impact on your riding.

Come to the Little Switzerland for great riding and a chance to speak with friends, old and new, around the fire pit.

    Food
Included in the rally fee is a Saturday night banquet BBQ dinner catered by the TWoS staff.  Remember to wear the wristband you will receive at check-in to the banquet dinner (no wristband = no dinner). Having a headcount is also crucial for the TWoS staff to plan for our meal (so please try to register early!).

TWoS Restaurant will serve for general folks outside out of our rally Friday - Sunday.  So, if you're coming early, plan accordingly!  All other meals are at your cost.

    Breakfast: 8:00 am - 10:30 am

    Sunday
    Breakfast: 8:00 am - 10:30 am
    Lunch: 11:00 am - 3:00 pm

    Camping & Lodging
    Camping

Two Wheels of Suches (TWoS), also known as TWO (Two Wheels Only), has

camp sites that will have electricity available for those who need it (e.g., if you have a CPAP or a need where electricity is important to your health).  Otherwise, wide open fields, tree cover, creek view spots are all over.

You don't need to make reservations if you are tent camping as usual. TWoS is currently at $20 per night camping on the grounds.

    Cabins
TWoS also has 8 cabins available for booking.  These will go fast, if not already gone, so make your reservation as soon as possible.  Again, keep an eye on the thread as beds or cabins do come up.  Cabin rates are currently at $70 per night.

    Lodge Rooms
TWoS also has a limited number of lodge rooms available on a first come, first served basis.  Make your reservations early for a lodge room or a cabin if you don't plan to tent camp.  Mention COG when booking a cabin or lodge room.  Ditto on above, they are currently booked for the event already so if looking for one, keep an eye on the threads for someone canceling.  Lodgerates are at $80 per night.

To check on availability or make a reservation for one of the cabins or a lodge room, use TWoS' new online booking system at https://twowheelsofsuches.com/contact-us/ or call (706) 973-1671.  Plus, you can actually see a picture of our group on their home page during one of our banquets!  How cool are we?

    RV Parking
There is limited RV parking but NO hookups at TWoS.  If you need/want hookups, there are other camping resorts nearby.  Please google those.

    Registration/Fees
Registration fee is $35.00 for COG Members/Associate Members, and $45.00 for guests and non-members (including Forum-Only subscribers).

T-shirt design and purchase process will be posted soon!

When you arrive, look for the COG check-in point on the deck to the left of the lodge.  At check-in, you will receive a wristband that will be needed for the banquet dinner on Saturday.  And a couple goodies to carry home in your saddle bag.  Looking forward to seeing you there!

Registration closes at 11:59 pm (EDT) on August 22, 2025. This is so Skip, Carol and the team at TWoS can plan, order and get the banquet set up. Slight change of the meal this year. Going with... a bit of a change!

    Cancellation/Refund Policy
Cancellations must be received no later than Friday, August 29, 2025 by emailing events@concours.org. There will be no refunds for cancellations received after August 29, 2025.

    A Statement About Minors

As some of you may already know, getting insurance for COG events has become more difficult and is requiring many new risk management procedures. The North Central Area Director Gary Mazzola has been working hard to help get COG through these new challenges. The amount of time he has spent on the phone working things out must be staggering. These new procedures and requirements are not specific to COG, but are for all groups getting insurance through the AMA insurance provider.

One of the many changes is the waiver process for minors.

Minors attending a COG rally MUST have a waiver signed by BOTH PARENTS. Guardian (signatures) are not acceptable. What this means for example is, Uncles and Grandparents cannot show up with a child and sign the waiver as a guardian for the child. It also means that any parent that is not attending the event in person must send a signed and notarized waiver to the event. (this is not a COG rule, it is a rule of the underwriters.) Whether the minor is riding or not riding at the event, is not a factor. Attending the event is the factor. So, to be clear, if a father shows up with a child under the age of 18, he must both sign the minor waiver himself AND supply a notarized signed copy from the mother as well. The AMA waiver form itself has not been updated and still mentions "Guardians", however the insurance company has been very clear in the form that COG (me in the SE case) has to fill out to get the insurance:

BOTH PARENTS MUST SIGN THE WAIVER (UNLESS ONE PARENT INDICATES THEY HAVE SOLE CUSTODY). IF NOT PRESENT AT THE EVENT, A NOTARIZED WAIVER MUST BE PROVIDED AND SIGNED BY BOTH PARENTS. A GUARDIAN CANNOT SIGN FOR A MINOR PARTICIPANT.

I have no idea if any minors are in people's plans to attend COG events but we have had minors show up to COG events in the past and I wanted this out in time to comply with the requirements.

The waiver is attached and is also available for download at the AMA website: https://americanmotorcyclist.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/AMA-Minor-Recreation.pdf

    Thank you for your understanding.

Just a suggestion for your consideration:

It would be a good practice to have medical information available that would remain available with a parent/guardian or on the child's person. The attached form is a guide and is not intended to be shared with COG nor the AMA, it is only to be supplied to attending medical personnel if needed. You should keep it with you while you are riding or at the event.

It's also a good idea for all adult attendees to have with them, perhaps kept with their drivers license or medical insurance card. Perhaps a list of medications on the back of the form wouldn't be a terrible idea. These are things that would be easier to do at home before the event.

Note: In past years, many rally attendees have arrived and set up camp on Thursday. While I also plan to arrive on Thursday, please note that the rally officially begins on Friday.

    Camping

For 2025 we will once again have our campground located near the grassy area around the larger Pavilion #2 (red circle on left side of the illustration below).  This will allow everyone who is camping or staying in one of the cabins to be in the same space.  This move will bring everyone easier and closer access to meals and the evening campfire.  All meals will again be served at pavilion #2.  Please pay your camping fee (~$16.00/night - still need to confirm the rate for 2025) at the OFFICE upon arrival.  New flush toilets and pay showers are available and close to this camping area.

Click on map for a larger image - Pavilion #2 is to the left of the Horse Pasture

    Lodging
Huzzah Valley has cabins for rent. Check their website (https://huzzahvalley.com) or call (1-800-367-4516) for more information and availability. There are also motels close by in Cuba and Potosi, Missouri.

    Riding

Pretty damn good! That's why we're here.  Maps and routes will be available.  See example routes below.

Food (check back this summer for final details)

For 2025, all dinners (including Saturday) will be served in Pavilion #2
Friday Evening - Burgers & Brats, baked beans and potato salad
Saturday Evening - Pork steaks, baked potato, corn on the cob, side salad, and apple cobbler

Friday, Saturday & Sunday morning - Coffee and breakfast sandwiches
All weekend - Soft drinks will be provided

    Call for Volunteers

How does the saying go... many hands make light work.  COG is a 100% volunteer run organization, and that includes the Spider Ride.  During registration you will have the opportunity to raise your hand if you're willing to help (e.g., food preparation, servers, KP duty/cleanup).  Please consider volunteering to help with some aspect of the rally.

    Muskoka Ride and Rendezvous

This COG event in South Central Ontario Canada. Muskoka is a beautiful area in the province of Ontario in Canada. It's a popular and picturesque place to getaway in, that's second to none, with a long and rich history.

Muskoka extends from Georgian Bay in the west to the western border of Algonquin Provincial Park in the east, and to Severn Bridge in the south. It's just a two-hour drive north of the city of Toronto on Hwy 400. Muskoka spans 6,475 square km (2,500 sq. mi.).

Earlier in the spring of 2025, we started to plan a third weekend ride through Muskoka, where the paved highways and roads are intertwined with at least 10 major lakes and approximately 100 smaller lakes - too many to count.

The roads are well-mapped and marked. There is no shortage of curves, some so tight that if you don't pay attention to the recommended speed, you might find yourself in the ditch if there is one.

    The Riding Area

Suggested riding routes will be provided because the size of the Muskoka area and multiple routes. There will not be any guided tours.

GPS routes will be made available as they are produced. Please check the Northeast Events Forum.

    Lodging Options

The Rendezvous central will be at the Pinedale Inn on Gull Lake, Gravenhurst, Ontario, Canada.

To guarantee a spot at the Inn, call to make a reservation.

    www.pinedalemotel.com

The Pinedale has a nice web site for more information also there are lots of other options in the area if needed.

    Food

Your registration fee will include dinner on Saturday, and the menus are still being worked out. Here is the current thinking on the menu: burgers and salads, but we reserve the right to change it. There are also many restaurants within walking distance or a short ride of the Pinedale Inn.

Bottled water, pop, and coffee will be provided, and coolers with ice will be available for anyone who wants to, can BYOB.

    Registration/Fees

All registrations will take place online. While there is no fee to register, we kindly ask attendees to contribute $60 per person at the Pinedale Inn to help offset the cost of food and non-alcoholic beverages provided during the weekend. Registration will close at 11:59 PM on Friday, August 1st.

    Cancellation Policy

If you need to cancel your registration, you can do so independently (online) until August 1st. After that date, please contact Bob Ferguson (bob.ferguson@sympatico.ca) or Rhoda Warham (rhodawarham@gmail.com) if you need to cancel. The Hunt for Red October

Please plan to join us for the 31st Anniversary of The Hunt for Red October, traditionally our biggest event of the riding season.  For those that can join us Friday night at the Don Q Inn in Dodgeville, we’ll probably order some pizzas again this year and pass the hat to cover the cost.

[Note - We are in the process of evaluating alternatives to the Don Q Inn. Please check back for additional details and to register for the HFRO]

If you can't make it to Dodgeville on Friday, don't worry, you can meet up with the group on Saturday between Noon - 1:00 PM at the Sparta Family Restaurant at the intersection of I-90 and Hwy. 27 in Sparta, WI (see map).

Following lunch, riders typically break into smaller groups and plan a route through a variety of great roads in the heart of the driftless area in southwestern Wisconsin, with the final destination being the Don Q Inn in Dodgeville, WI.

If you can't make the banquet Saturday night, but you have time for a day ride, or you just want to meet the group, kick some tires, share tall tales, etc., consider meeting us at the Sparta Family Restaurant around Noon on Saturday to say hello and maybe ride a little with one of the groups after lunch.
