    Sierra Sidewinder

The Sierra Sidewinder is going back to the Eastern Sierra in 2025 for a weekend of riding some of the Sierra's most beautiful roads and passes, including Sonora, Ebbitts, Kit Carson, maybe even Tioga.

We've booked the entire Andruss Motel for our group. See additional details below under Lodging.

Pre-event West Sierra NIght: Any riders coming up from LA area or Central Coast may also want to join us for a Thursday-night stop in Kingsburg, Calif. (obviously this is open to ANYONE). Feel free to book online for Thursday, Aug. 14 at Fairfield Inn & Suites in Kingsburg. This is on Hwy 99 just south of Fresno and will give us a great start on Friday’s ride through Yosemite and TIoga Pass. No motel arrangements made by COG, but I’m seeing nightly rates of $110 plus tax.

    FRIDAY RIDE OPTION:
Friday’s ride from Kingsburg: We will be KSU at 8:30 a.m. (fed and fueled) from Kady’s Kitchen at 1701 Simpson St. in Kingsburg (restaurant opens at 5:30 a.m., so plenty of time to eat). From here, the latest thought is that we will ride north on secondary roads to 108 and Sonora Pass, then southwest from Bridgeport to lunch at the Village Cafe on the shore of Twin Lakes. (As an alternative, riders have the option of crossing the Sierra via Yosemite National Park and Hwy 120 through Tioga Pass. But that route is looking worse as summer gets rolling, so folks can take their pick - noting that there is currently a reservation system with reservations REQUIRED to pass through Yosemite.) Either way, we will be meeting for lunch in Twin Lakes and of course we will be having dinner in Walker.

    Lodging

Event Headquarters are at the Andruss Motel in Walker, Calif. — on the east side of the Sierra. The motel is holding all rooms for COG for the nights of Aug. 15 (Friday) and Aug. 16 (Saturday). They are giving us a nightly rate of $120 if paid in cash. There are a variety of different size room and all are the same cost (if paid in cash). Call them directly to book and tell them your are with COG — 530-495-2216

    Ken McClurg Honor Ride

Many of you know Ken McClurg - long-time COG member, former Area Director, and Wisconsin AAD. Ken has reached the end of the usefulness of hospitalizations for his congestive heart failure, and was recently admitted to a home hospice program following discharge from his most recent hospital stay.

Ken has given so much to COG, and we would like to honor him with a ride on August 23rd that will run through Coon Valley, WI, and make a stop at his home to allow those able to join the ride to talk with Ken. This ride will take the place of the annual Baraboo Hills Ride.

We will meet at the Culver's in Spring Green, WI, at 11:00 a.m., and ride some great roads west to Coon Valley for Ken and Karon's famous Chili lunch and time to chat with Ken.

Many of you recall that Ken's tagline on his emails used to say:

"LIFE'S JOURNEY IS NOT TO ARRIVE AT THE GRAVE SAFELY IN A WELL-PRESERVED BODY, BUT RATHER TO SKID IN SIDEWAYS, TOTALLY WORN OUT, SHOUTING 'HOLY SHIT... WHAT A RIDE!'"

Well, Ken's getting his wish. Hope you can join me on this ride to honor Ken and his generous spirit.

      Food
Included in the rally fee is a Saturday night banquet BBQ dinner catered by the TWoS staff.  Remember to wear the wristband you will receive at check-in to the banquet dinner (no wristband = no dinner). Having a headcount is also crucial for the TWoS staff to plan for our meal (so please try to register early!).

TWoS Restaurant will serve for general folks outside out of our rally Friday - Sunday.  So, if you're coming early, plan accordingly!  All other meals are at your cost.

      Camping & Lodging
      Camping

Two Wheels of Suches (TWoS), also known as TWO (Two Wheels Only), has

camp sites that will have electricity available for those who need it (e.g., if you have a CPAP or a need where electricity is important to your health).  Otherwise, wide open fields, tree cover, creek view spots are all over.

You don't need to make reservations if you are tent camping as usual. TWoS is currently at $20 per night camping on the grounds.

      Cabins
TWoS also has 8 cabins available for booking.  These will go fast, if not already gone, so make your reservation as soon as possible.  Again, keep an eye on the thread as beds or cabins do come up.  Cabin rates are currently at $70 per night.

      Lodge Rooms
TWoS also has a limited number of lodge rooms available on a first come, first served basis.  Make your reservations early for a lodge room or a cabin if you don't plan to tent camp.  Mention COG when booking a cabin or lodge room.  Ditto on above, they are currently booked for the event already so if looking for one, keep an eye on the threads for someone canceling.  Lodgerates are at $80 per night.

To check on availability or make a reservation for one of the cabins or a lodge room, use TWoS' new online booking system at https://twowheelsofsuches.com/contact-us/ or call (706) 973-1671.  Plus, you can actually see a picture of our group on their home page during one of our banquets!  How cool are we?

      RV Parking
There is limited RV parking but NO hookups at TWoS.  If you need/want hookups, there are other camping resorts nearby.  Please google those.

      Event Swag

RWTW T-shirts are available to purchase here:
      https://harrymartin.threadless.com/designs/31st-annual-run-with-the-wolf

      Registration/Fees
Registration fee is $35.00 for COG Members/Associate Members, and $45.00 for guests and non-members (including Forum-Only subscribers).

T-shirt design and purchase process will be posted soon!

When you arrive, look for the COG check-in point on the deck to the left of the lodge.  At check-in, you will receive a wristband that will be needed for the banquet dinner on Saturday.  And a couple goodies to carry home in your saddle bag.  Looking forward to seeing you there!

Registration closes at 11:59 pm (EDT) on August 22, 2025. This is so Skip, Carol and the team at TWoS can plan, order and get the banquet set up. Slight change of the meal this year. Going with... a bit of a change!

      Cancellation/Refund Policy
Cancellations must be received no later than Friday, August 29, 2025 by emailing events@concours.org. There will be no refunds for cancellations received after August 29, 2025.

      Questions

Contact rally host Mike Laven at bugnut@aol.com or call (813) 727-2394. Leave a VM, I may not recognize the number!

Look forward to seeing you there!

      A Statement About Minors

As some of you may already know, getting insurance for COG events has become more difficult and is requiring many new risk management procedures. The North Central Area Director Gary Mazzola has been working hard to help get COG through these new challenges. The amount of time he has spent on the phone working things out must be staggering. These new procedures and requirements are not specific to COG, but are for all groups getting insurance through the AMA insurance provider.

One of the many changes is the waiver process for minors.

Minors attending a COG rally MUST have a waiver signed by BOTH PARENTS. Guardian (signatures) are not acceptable. What this means for example is, Uncles and Grandparents cannot show up with a child and sign the waiver as a guardian for the child. It also means that any parent that is not attending the event in person must send a signed and notarized waiver to the event. (this is not a COG rule, it is a rule of the underwriters.) Whether the minor is riding or not riding at the event, is not a factor. Attending the event is the factor. So, to be clear, if a father shows up with a child under the age of 18, he must both sign the minor waiver himself AND supply a notarized signed copy from the mother as well. The AMA waiver form itself has not been updated and still mentions "Guardians", however the insurance company has been very clear in the form that COG (me in the SE case) has to fill out to get the insurance:

BOTH PARENTS MUST SIGN THE WAIVER (UNLESS ONE PARENT INDICATES THEY HAVE SOLE CUSTODY). IF NOT PRESENT AT THE EVENT, A NOTARIZED WAIVER MUST BE PROVIDED AND SIGNED BY BOTH PARENTS. A GUARDIAN CANNOT SIGN FOR A MINOR PARTICIPANT.

I have no idea if any minors are in people's plans to attend COG events but we have had minors show up to COG events in the past and I wanted this out in time to comply with the requirements.

The waiver is attached and is also available for download at the AMA website: https://americanmotorcyclist.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/AMA-Minor-Recreation.pdf

      Thank you for your understanding.

Just a suggestion for your consideration:

It would be a good practice to have medical information available that would remain available with a parent/guardian or on the child's person. The attached form is a guide and is not intended to be shared with COG nor the AMA, it is only to be supplied to attending medical personnel if needed. You should keep it with you while you are riding or at the event.

It's also a good idea for all adult attendees to have with them, perhaps kept with their drivers license or medical insurance card. Perhaps a list of medications on the back of the form wouldn't be a terrible idea. These are things that would be easier to do at home before the event.

      The Spider Ride

Please mark your calendars and plan on joining us for the COG 2025 Spider Ride. Once again, ride headquarters will be at the Huzzah Valley Resort (Pavilion #2). The Huzzah Valley Resort (Map) is located approximately 8 miles east of Steelville, Missouri on MO-Route 8 at the Huzzah Creek (Big Red Barn).

Note: In past years, many rally attendees have arrived and set up camp on Thursday. While I also plan to arrive on Thursday, please note that the rally officially begins on Friday.

      Camping

For 2025 we will once again have our campground located near the grassy area around the larger Pavilion #2 (red circle on left side of the illustration below).  This will allow everyone who is camping or staying in one of the cabins to be in the same space.  This move will bring everyone easier and closer access to meals and the evening campfire.  All meals will again be served at pavilion #2.  Please pay your camping fee (~$16.00/night - still need to confirm the rate for 2025) at the OFFICE upon arrival.  New flush toilets and pay showers are available and close to this camping area.

Click on map for a larger image - Pavilion #2 is to the left of the Horse Pasture

      Lodging
Huzzah Valley has cabins for rent. Check their website (https://huzzahvalley.com) or call (1-800-367-4516) for more information and availability. There are also motels close by in Cuba and Potosi, Missouri.

      Riding

Pretty damn good! That's why we're here.  Maps and routes will be available.  See example routes below.

Food (check back this summer for final details)

For 2025, all dinners (including Saturday) will be served in Pavilion #2
Friday Evening - Burgers & Brats, baked beans and potato salad
Saturday Evening - Pork steaks, baked potato, corn on the cob, side salad, and apple cobbler

Friday, Saturday & Sunday morning - Coffee and breakfast sandwiches
All weekend - Soft drinks will be provided

      Call for Volunteers

How does the saying go... many hands make light work.  COG is a 100% volunteer run organization, and that includes the Spider Ride.  During registration you will have the opportunity to raise your hand if you're willing to help (e.g., food preparation, servers, KP duty/cleanup).  Please consider volunteering to help with some aspect of the rally.

      Muskoka Ride and Rendezvous

This COG event in South Central Ontario Canada. Muskoka is a beautiful area in the province of Ontario in Canada. It's a popular and picturesque place to getaway in, that's second to none, with a long and rich history.

Muskoka extends from Georgian Bay in the west to the western border of Algonquin Provincial Park in the east, and to Severn Bridge in the south. It's just a two-hour drive north of the city of Toronto on Hwy 400. Muskoka spans 6,475 square km (2,500 sq. mi.).

Earlier in the spring of 2025, we started to plan a third weekend ride through Muskoka, where the paved highways and roads are intertwined with at least 10 major lakes and approximately 100 smaller lakes - too many to count.

The roads are well-mapped and marked. There is no shortage of curves, some so tight that if you don't pay attention to the recommended speed, you might find yourself in the ditch if there is one.

      The Riding Area

Suggested riding routes will be provided because the size of the Muskoka area and multiple routes. There will not be any guided tours.

GPS routes will be made available as they are produced. Please check the Northeast Events Forum.

      Lodging Options

The Rendezvous central will be at the Pinedale Inn on Gull Lake, Gravenhurst, Ontario, Canada.

To guarantee a spot at the Inn, call to make a reservation.

The Pinedale has a nice web site for more information also there are lots of other options in the area if needed.

      Food

Your registration fee will include dinner on Saturday, and the menus are still being worked out. Here is the current thinking on the menu: burgers and salads, but we reserve the right to change it. There are also many restaurants within walking distance or a short ride of the Pinedale Inn.

Bottled water, pop, and coffee will be provided, and coolers with ice will be available for anyone who wants to, can BYOB.

      Registration/Fees

All registrations will take place online. While there is no fee to register, we kindly ask attendees to contribute $60 per person at the Pinedale Inn to help offset the cost of food and non-alcoholic beverages provided during the weekend. Registration will close at 11:59 PM on Friday, August 1st.

If you need to cancel your registration, you can do so independently (online) until August 1st. Update 03/15-2025: The Big Bend Ride the Twisties is cancelled for 2025. Look for a couple Meet N Greet events to pop up in Alpine, TX during the same 3rd weekend in October 2025.

      -- Martin Cobb

2025 COG BBRTT (Big Bend Ride the Twisties)

BBRTT returns in 2025 in Alpine Texas for great tire scrubbing and fellowship.  We return to the Highland Inn in Alpine, TX:

      Highland Inn
      1404 East Hwy 90
      Alpine, TX 79830
      Phone: 432-837-5811

Plan on going to the Reata or a local restaurant of your choice on Friday evening.

The fire pit will be fully engaged and we will plan for a meal (probably pizza) on Saturday evening on the hotel grounds.

This location offers the best riding logistics in the Trans-Pecos with access to Big Bend NP, the legendary River Road FM 170, and the Davis Mountains.

Any questions, feel free to email or call me at the contact info provided below.

      See you in Alpine!

      Marty

      Registration/Fees
There is no registration fee.  However, we're asking everyone to register online so we have an idea of how many people to expect for pizza.

      Reata Alpine Meet 'n' Greet

This will be a COG Meet 'n' Greet event, wear some COG gear if you have it so we will know you. Everyone will be responsible for their own check. Please register and that way we will be able to make a reservation with a head count and lessen the wait time for a table. Reata Alpine's Dinner Menu

Since this is an evening event it is strongly suggested that participants secure lodging in town and not attempt to ride home after the event. I will be staying at the Highland Inn on the east side of town and probably making the 20 minute walk to the restaurant from there.
